Agent Alpha, Chapter 2

Of course, you like danger, but you hate taking part in a suicide mission.

This is what you think, when you park your fancy sports car in the empty parking lot. After you get out of the white Lamborghini, you take off the exclusive pair of sunglasses to look around. You're standing in front of Gate No. 1 of the facility that used to be a naval base.

The Director was right. When seeing the thick walls and the fortress-like, massive buildings, you confirm that this place can’t be attacked and overrun easily.

Arriving here wasn’t difficult at all, but getting in and remaining there will be a harder nut. You calmly lean against the side of the car, waiting for someone to greet you.

Finally, a door opens. Two guards appear in the parking lot, aiming their machine guns at you. Luckily, they don’t pull the trigger.

After body-searching you, the guards welcome you, and allow you to pass through the gate to get to the other side of the double fence.

The gunmen accompany you, leading you from the main gate through the outer zone to the innermost place. You’re pleased, because you could complete the first stage of the mission. It was the simplest task, and after you enter the inner area, you will no longer be able to retreat, and your real assignment will start unstoppably.

But there is no choice for you to change your mind when you arrive at the central building. The huge steel door opens, and an armed man in a grey uniform steps out. He waves his hand to send the first two guards back to the gate.

‘Give me your gun!’ he says, without even saying hello. His tone is indifferent, most likely, he has said these four words a zillion times.

‘Those guys out there have already checked me.’ You point at the two gunmen who brought you here. But as a sign of cooperation, you raise your arms in the air to allow him to perform the unnecessary second security process. ‘You won’t find anything. I don't have any weapons on me. You know, I came here to buy some.’

But your smile doesn’t melt his stone-hard heart.

‘Don’t take it personally,’ he says after finishing the procedure. ‘Please follow me.’

He gestures and steps aside to let you into the building. He goes into a passageway, and you try to keep his rapid pace. After walking along a short corridor, you find yourself in a hall-like room.

Seemingly, the simple chamber was turned into an almost welcoming place with its comfortable chairs and a flat-screen TV. But the surveillance cameras mounted in all the upper corners remind you how dangerous this building can be. You observe two more doors in the wall opposite the main entrance.

Your grumpy watchdog seats casually himself, and peers at you. ‘Is Mr Dubaku all right?’

His question refers to your story. You pretend to be a representative of an African warlord, wanting to purchase weapons to start a full-scale civil war. But you feel disturbed since he keeps an eye on you all the time. Simply, you don’t want to be watched.

‘Mr Dubaku?’ you ask informally. ‘For sure. He’s a very healthy man.’

Maybe the fellow is just trying to pass the time by talking to you. Or is he waiting for the results of your security check? These people don’t trust anyone for good reason. However, your fingerprints in the criminal databases at every law-enforcement agency will prove that you’re the best arms dealer of a lesser-known, but emerging African warlord.

‘I was told that he was badly wounded when the government forces attacked his headquarters,’ your guard says.

‘Don’t worry. He doesn’t have any injuries that cannot be cured. I can assure you that our bank accounts in Switzerland are sound and healthy. General Seagull will get the money as soon as we’ll get the guns. When can I meet him?’

You want to get to business as fast as possible.

‘Be patient, the welcoming committee will be here shortly.’ He leisurely leans back in his seat.

You stare at him, and notice a strange sparkle in his eye. Most likely, your cover story has already been blown, and they have discovered your real identity. You do your utmost to maintain an unconcerned expression, but inside you're growing worried. The minutes pass quickly, and you’re stuck still in the waiting room. In a moment, you'll have to make your first decision on how to go on.

-- Option 1: If you hope that your false identity wasn’t revealed, and you can meet General Seagull soon, then you can stay here and wait for the welcome team. In this case, jump to Chapter 17.

If you assume that you have to take the initiative by leaving this place as soon as possible, then you have to knock the guard out, and try one of the doors:
-- Option 2: If you enter the door on the left, then go to Chapter 25.
-- Option 3: If you would like to choose the door on the right, then read Chapter 31.

From: Chapter 1 -- Chapter 4 -- Chapter 5 -- Chapter 8 -- Chapter 9 -- Chapter 21 -- Chapter 28 -- Chapter 30 -- Chapter 39 -- Chapter 41 -- Chapter 43 -- Chapter 45 -- Chapter 47 -- Chapter 49

Story summary: In this story, you’re the hero. Or rather, the hero can be a male or a female, young or old, short or tall, blonde or black-haired. It all depends only on your imagination. This story isn’t linear but interactive: so, when getting to a decision point, you must work out what to do. Going to the right or turning to the left? Fight or flight? Being a hero or a turning into a loser? And, of course, you must face the result of any of your choice. Walk through the labyrinth of this story to read all the outcomes that can be happy or sad ends with casts for fractures, or bandages for burn injuries, or (exceeding my usual limits) even amputation or paralysis.
